Ravenclaw Tests of Logic

Brilliant, said Hermione. This isn't magic - it's logic.

Puzzle One - Quidditch Match! - Solution Page

Lee Jordan is having a difficult time commentating the Ravenclaw-Slytherin Quidditch match because everything seems to be happening at once. There are four Slytherin players involved in the action right now - Leo, Miriam, Nathaniel, and Osiris. Each of them is playing a different position - one is a Keeper, one is a Chaser, one is a Beater, and one is a Seeker. Right now each of them is taking a different action. One player is ducking a Bludger, another is trying to get the referee's attention, a third is dodging a hex cast by one of the spectators, and the fourth is shouting that the Ravenclaw Seeker is diving for the Snitch. Can you match the name of each player with his or her position and action (ducking Bludger, signalling referee, dodging hex, shouting)?

1. Leo is neither ducking the Bludger nor trying to get the referee's attention.

2. The Keeper is not trying to get the referee's attention.

3. The player ducking the Bludger, and the one shouting about the Ravenclaw Seeker? One is Nathaniel and the other is the Beater (though not necessarily in that order).

4. Osiris is dodging the hex cast by the spectator.

5. The Seeker is not Miriam, and is also not ducking a Bludger.

Solution:

Leo is not ducking the Bludger nor trying to get the referee's attention (clue 1), and Osiris is the one doding the hex (clue 4), so the only remaining action left for Leo is shouting about the Ravenclaw Seeker.

If Leo is the one shouting about the Ravenclaw Seeker, then Nathaniel is the one ducking the Bludger (clue 3). This also means that Leo is the Beater.

Since Osiris is dodging the hex, Leo is shouting about the Ravenclaw Seeker, and Nathaniel is ducking the Bludger, then the only action left for Miriam is to be trying to get the referee's attention.

Miriam is not the Seeker (clue 5), and Leo is the Beater, which means Miriam has to be either the Keeper or the Chaser. But Miriam is trying to get the referee's attention, and we know that the player trying to get the referee's attention is not the Keeper, so Miriam has to be the Chaser.

If Miriam is the Chaser and Leo is the Beater, then Nathaniel has to be either the Keeper or the Seeker. But Nathaniel is ducking the Bludger, and we know the Seeker is not ducking a Bludger (clue 5). So Nathaniel has to be the Keeper.

With Miriam as the Chaser, Leo as the Beater, and Nathaniel as the Keeper, the only position left for Osiris is Seeker.

So:
Leo Beater shouting about Ravenclaw Seeker
Miriam Chaser getting referee's attention
Nathaniel Keeper ducking a Bludger
Osiris Seeker dodging a hex
